2016 Kelly Fleming BIG POUR Cabernet
The 2016 growing season was a season of near perfection in the Napa Valley. After several years of drought conditions, the winter season graced the valley with an abundance of rain, establishing a solid foundation for the vines to lean on throughout the spring and summer. Budbreak began in mid-March and was followed by a mostly mild spring and summer. The cool, foggy days of August seemed to moderate the ripening process, allowing flavor, tannin and sugar development to progress at an even pace.
The 2016 Big Pour Cabernet Sauvignon is a stellar representation of the 2016 vintage in Napa Valley, with its purity of fruit and superb balance and grace. On the nose one finds a complex array of aromatics: sweet, confectionary notes like bing cherry, dark chocolate and black licorice are deftly interwoven with savory tones of dried sage, sweet tobacco and stony graphite. The wine is plush and silky across the palate, yet supported by fine and elegant tannins throughout. The core of red cherry fruit flavors coming from the Kelly Fleming Estate vineyard, gain complexity and lift with small additions of Malbec and Syrah. Overall, this wine has the substance and structure to age beautifully over the next 10+ years, but is also completely drinkable right at this moment.
