2011 Kelly Fleming Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
Our 2011 Cabernet exhibits restraint and elegance, while simultaneously showcasing the true colors and terroir of the Kelly Fleming estate. In order to preserve these qualities, the wine received slightly longer skin contact in tank, and slightly less new oak during barrel aging. This vintage provides a unique opportunity to see Napa Valley Cabernet in a style more reflective of the grape’s heritage in Bordeaux.
In the Vineyard
2011 was characterized by a damp and cool spring moving into a cooler than average summer. The low spring temperatures led to a late bloom, and the low summer temperatures delayed ripening, ultimately leading to a late harvest. The challenges of the season provided an opportunity for the best in Napa Valley to shine. Through daily attention in the vineyard, thinning substandard fruit and extremely careful cluster selection, we produced a low yield harvest of outstanding fruit and concentrated flavors.
In 2011, our flagship Estate Cabernet also received a fresh new look, marking its 10th vintage release. Simple, clean and contemporary, the new label features Kelly Fleming’s signature “F” olive branch logo against a matte white background. The effect is at once elegant yet powerful – the perfect expression of the wine inside the bottle.
Vibrant aromas of candied cherry, brambleberry, sweet mint and black licorice intertwine seamlessly with aromas of toasted almond, cinnamon spice, and tobacco box. The palate shows a juicy core of red plum and cherry, perfumed by the distinct savory herb and floral notes that characterize our property. The bright, juicy nature of this wine is balanced by soft, velvety tannins that both coat the palate and support the minerally, refined finish.
